Dubai-based multi-service platform Careem has acquired subscription-based food delivery tech startup Munch:On for an undisclosed sum.

Founded in 2016, Munch:On is a UAE-born platform that connects customers to discounted meals by tapping into underutilized kitchen capacity. The solution drives efficiencies for restaurants and cloud kitchens and has built scale in the corporate lunch segment.

Munch:On has delivered millions of meals to customers across 20,000 companies since its inception, making food ordering more accessible and affordable. The company will cease daily operations and the offering will be rebuilt on the Careem app. The teams will work together to create value by introducing low-cost meal segments, as well as new food discovery and delivery options for corporates.

The food offer on the Careem app today serves millions of customers by providing access to over 18,000 restaurants across the Middle East. Through its acquisition of Munch:On, Careem Food plans to build a competitive offering for customers and restaurant partners in the UAE.

The Careem App offers more than a dozen services in the UAE, including ride-hailing, food and grocery delivery, micro-mobility, payments, and partner services, including car rental and home cleaning. Established in July 2012, Careem operates in more than 100 cities across 12 countries and has created more than one million income-generating opportunities in the region. The company became a subsidiary of Uber Technologies in 2020.
