World’s first Old El Paso opens in Dubai

Collaborates with Zomato for ‘dark kitchen’ concept

U.S. multinational food firm General Mills has opened the first Old El Paso “restaurant” in the world in Dubai.

The Mexican food brand, which was introduced to the region two years ago, is more commonly found on supermarket shelves, but has been launched in Dubai in takeaway form through food delivery app Zomato.

General Mills has partnered with a ‘dark kitchen’ operator in Dubai to be able to offer the new menu of Mexican favorites. Rather than cooking for eat-in diners, dark kitchens, or cloud kitchens, are a phenomenon introduced following the increasing number of operating aggregators, and cook purely for delivery, so the food produced there can only be consumed elsewhere.
