UAE retail conglomerate Majid Al Futtaim has unveiled its 10th and largest Carrefour online fulfillment center to expedite the delivery of products to online shoppers across Dubai.
The fulfillment center situated in Dubai’s Al Garhoud area spans 5,000 square meters and was constructed in five weeks in response to the growth in online shopping following the COVID-19 pandemic.
The center operates 24/7 and handles up to 3,000 daily orders, which will increase to 5,000 orders per day. It is staffed by over 250 employees and is stocked with over 8,000 essential grocery products.
COVID-19 has brought about an unprecedented acceleration in the adoption of digital commerce, forcing retailers to be agile in operations. In March 2020, Majid Al Futtaim temporarily reassigned 1,015 employees from VOX Cinemas, Magic Planet, Little Explorers, and Ski Dubai across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Oman, and Lebanon to its Carrefour section, as the entertainment venues were closed during the lockdown.
In April 2020, it launched an online marketplace through carrefouruae.com giving the company’s shopping mall tenants and other UAE-based businesses a new e-commerce channel to reach out to customers.
