International bank HSBC has opened its new Middle East headquarters in Dubai’s Downtown area. The 236,000 square feet of HSBC Tower accommodates 3,000 employees, innovation labs, a university, training studios, and collaboration hubs. It also includes a gym, studio space for yoga classes, a reflection room, an outdoor terrace, and a number of coffee shops and restaurants. The building utilizes artificial intelligence, machine learning, biometrics, and blockchain innovation.
HSBC Tower signifies a USD 250 million investment and has been awarded a Gold Standard for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) from the Green Building Council.
The bank has had a presence in the UAE since 1946, and as the first bank in what subsequently became the UAE, it has played a key role in the country's economic and social development.
UAE has been identified as one of HSBC’s eight scale markets, along with Hong Kong and UK, in the bank’s global strategy announced in June 2018. Globally, HSBC has announced plans to invest USD 15-17 billion until 2020 with technology a main focus.
