First SPAR Supermarket opens in Dubai

The brand caters to a demographic mix of local and expatriate customers

SPAR UAE, a part of an international group of independently owned and operated retailers and wholesalers, has opened its first supermarket in Dubai, taking the total number of SPAR multi-format modern supermarkets in the country to 31.

The 725-square-meter SPAR Supermarket is located in a prestigious residential neighborhood and caters for a mix of local and international customers. It contains a fresh produce section, a fresh fish counter, roastery, food-to-go, a delicatessen, and an Arabic bakery, along with imported and local fresh meats, Arabic snacks and sweets, and healthy organic products.

Keeping the demographic in mind, the product caters to both locals and expatriates with a large selection of local and internationally sourced produce, fish and shellfish range, cheese and delicatessen products, and SPAR’s own brands sourced from around the world.

Since its launch in Abu Dhabi in 2012, SPAR today has a presence in four of the six GCC states. The brand says that its scalable multi-format strategy of operating SPAR hypermarkets, supermarkets, neighborhood, and convenience stores is very well suited for meeting and adapting to local consumer needs.

SPAR in the UAE is operated by the Abu Dhabi Co-operative Society (ADCOOPS), which was granted the SPAR brand license in 2012.

In 2019, SPAR UAE plans to accelerate the new store opening program, with development plans in place across the UAE to launch 30 more multi-format SPAR Supermarkets and an additional 30,000 square meters of selling area, including nine supermarkets in newly developed community centers.
