Dubai’s Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (Dubai Tourism) has emphasized the importance of retrofitting of hospitality assets and raising the awareness of its partners in the field of preserving the environment.
The Dubai Sustainable Tourism initiative aims to use retrofitting as a key element in making Dubai one of the world’s leading sustainable tourism destinations in partnership with Etihad ESCO, Emirates Environmental Group, Emirates Wildlife Society, World Wildlife Fund, Emirates Green Building Council, Dubai Supreme Council for Energy, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, and Dubai Municipality.
Dubai Tourism has stressed the importance of cooperation between developers and energy service companies to reduce carbon emissions by 16 percent by 2021 in line with the Comprehensive Carbon Emissions Reduction Strategy. The retrofitting of buildings aims to upgrade existing systems and technologies and transform them into intelligent systems with high energy efficiency, thus improving operations and reducing annual costs.
Building rehabilitation programs are carried out following a series of technical and financial procedures and audits of existing methods, allowing building owners and operators to identify best practices of sustainability that contribute to reducing energy consumption, the authority said.
