The World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) is the official Knowledge Partner of the Annual Investment Meeting (AIM) in Dubai in April 2018 and will hold a workshop on the Capacity Building Day of AIM on April 8.
The workshop will focus on emerging technologies and opportunities for how IPAs can contribute to create a sound investment climate for attracting and promoting emerging technologies, as well as how these emerging technologies can be used to further attract investment.
At the World Investment Conference (WIC) in Dubai in November 2017, WAIPA announced the appointment of Fahad Al Gergawi, CEO of the Dubai Investment Development Agency (Dubai FDI) in Dubai Economy, as the Vice President from the UAE for 2017-2019.
The announcement came after the Executive Committee meeting of WAIPA held in Dubai alongside the WIC. The two-day event that included the General Assembly began on November 27 and brought together leading IPAs from around the world, as well as the heads of international organizations and financial institutions, leading political figures, private sector representatives, prominent economists, and researchers to discuss what is in store for the future and share best practices.
Held under the theme ‘FDI as a driving force for sustainable development’, the conference aimed to underline the importance of IPAs and FDI into sustainable development. The conference explored how in reality empowered IPAs can contribute even more effectively and successfully towards the creation of beneficial linkages and spill-overs, creating welfare and prosperity through the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
